During our March break I had the great opportunity to go to Mozambique. Mozambique is just a couple decades out of a civil war and therefore very undeveloped. We were able to interact with wild dolphins, surf, kitesurf, listen to live music, and much more. The 4 of us made the journey from Johannesburg to southern Mozambique taking about 9 hours. The best part about this area of the world is that all the roads are sand and therefore very few people get the opportunity to visit. Low key beach living is my calling. More picutres on facebook. Hope all is well. Booked my flight back to the States. I will be home June 5th and look forward to seeing everyone.

Good times!

Having fun with some of the locals at the public school just down the road from our $25,000 year private school. We play against this school in soccer with many of their players playing barefoot or in shared dress shoes while we play with shin guards and a brand new pair of Nikes. They play hard and never complain. We do many community activities with them and we have a very good working relationship but it is still hard to see the huge diversity of wealth in this world.

Mozambique pictures coming soon.

Great times with the student teachers

For the past two months I have had a student teacher working with me. It has been great. Jack came to us via New Jersey along with 4 others all for a two month student teaching post. I can remember just yesterday being a student teacher, now I am hosting one. Ouch, I am getting old! I must say that these youngsters were a lot of fun but man they wore me out. Great people trying to soak up as much as they can in a two month period.

On a side note: Just booked my ticket back home. I will be home all June and July. I look forward to seeing everyone.

I am headed to Mozambique tomorrow for 8 days of beach time. Should be great fun. Portuguese is the official language.

Classroom without walls(C.W.W.)

I thought you guys might enjoy a few pictures of last weeks 8th grade trip. We went to a camp for the week on the Indian Ocean just outside of Durbin. We flew there Monday morning and returned on Friday. The great part about it was that the students had counselors and therefore us teachers were able to just hang and have fun with the students. Great times. Similar to outdoor school.

Diving with Great Whites!!!

H0w many of you are afraid of going into the ocean because of sharks? I have never had that fear although I spend many hours in the water. I did however second guess myself when wanting to see the great beasts up close and personal. I was not worried about being close to the sharks but rather slightly worried about karma. Am pushing my luck? Time will only tell. The craziest part was how close to shore we actually were when seeing these magnificent creatures. We ended up seeing 6 great whites, one of which was huge. I know these pics don't live up to Shark week on the discovery channel but this is real life with a $250 olympus camera. The footage doesn't give it justice. Wow, they are big and aggressive. I think South Africa is the only place in the world that offers this. What an experience.

Sunscreen Lineup

This is dedicated to anybody who is a bit overwhelmed with all the snow hitting the U.S. Here is a picture from us Southern Hemisphere folk. Last weekend before our hike through Castle Gorge. Looked similar to Bryce Canyon in Utah.

I'm Still Back

How cute are the little ones? Niece and Nephew with our cousin Amy's kids. I guess that would make them second cousins or something like that. Who knows. Very cute though.
